Bomb alert on IndiGo flights: Hours after a fake bomb threat forced a London-bound Air India flight to make an emergency landing, two other IndiGo flight operations were impacted due to a fake bomb scare on Monday.
The two IndiGo flights, 6E 1275 from Mumbai to Muscat and Flight 6E 56 operating from Mumbai to Jeddah, received a bomb threat on Monday morning, ANI reported, citing sources.
Alarmed by the bomb threat, airport authorities moved the two aircraft to an isolation bay as part of the security measures. Prompt actions were taken after the two flights from Mumbai Airport en route to two separate Middle Eastern cities received messages regarding a bomb threat, sources told ANI.
“IndiGo flight 6E 1275 operating from Mumbai to Muscat and IndiGo flight 6E 56 operating from Mumbai to Jeddah had received a bomb threat,” an IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement, adding that the safety protocol was followed after the bomb threat.
“As per protocol, the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay, and following the standard operating procedure, mandatory security checks were promptly initiated. Customers were provided with assistance and refreshments, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused,” he added.
The New York-bound Air India flight, AI 119, carrying 239 passengers, was diverted to New Delhi on Monday for an emergency landing after airport authorities were alerted of a bomb implant on the aeroplane.
The flight, which took off at approximately 2 am, was immediately redirected to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi, where it is currently grounded.
Officials informed that all passengers disembarked and the aircraft was being searched.
Air India said, “Flight AI119, operating Mumbai to JFK on October 14, received a specific security alert and, on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee, was diverted to Delhi.”
